As per the Indian Income Tax Act, lottery winnings exceeding ₹10,000 attract a flat 30% TDS deduction plus applicable surcharge and 4% Health & Education cess. The Directorate of State Lotteries issues Form 16A for income tax return (ITR) filing. Winners can consult a certified chartered accountant or wealth management advisor for tax filing.
Non-Resident Indian (NRI) winners residing in the United States, UAE, Saudi Arabia, or Europe must submit their winning ticket with Indian passport, valid visa, and PAN card. Prize money is credited to NRE or NRO bank accounts with foreign inward remittance certificates (FIRC) under RBI FEMA regulations.
